Breakout and LoveBuffalo

An army of young people descended on the West Side of Buffalo, New York, U.S.A. They came armed with scrapers, paint brushes, hammers, shovel, rakes and brooms. They scraped, primed, painted, roofed, built porches and cleaned vacant buildings and lots. They ignited the sparks of a Pre-Revival fire that is only kindling for a City wide bonfire of love that will sweep through Buffalo and erupt into a Bright Spot of Revival.

Contractors, clowns and volunteers helped to make it a "Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood!"

They spread love through service and it was contagious. At the Volunteer Table, neighbors could sign up to participate in work crews and receive a blue Breakout and LoveBuffalo Shirt. There was a Prayer Tent and a Meal Tent, you could get fed at both! An old grocery store had been slated for demolition by the City of Buffalo. The neighbors were asked what they thought should be done with the building. They said they didn't need another vacant lot in the neighborhood. So through prayer and counsel, a vision began to take shape that will help shape the people of that neighborhood. The plan at this point is to open a food co-op that will sell fresh fruit and vegetables at reasonable prices. The upstairs has many rooms that will be used for missionary students. Just like the Prayer Tent and the Food Tent, this building will offer 2 kinds of food; physical and spiritual.

This is the side of the grocery store. I saw Love scraping, priming and painting.

Each day a bus load of clowns would arrive at the corner of Vermont and Normal Streets. They would go up and down every street in the neighborhood spreading smiles and invitations. Everyone was invited for free meals and give aways. They were given a life changing message of Good News. I don't think I've ever seen so many smiles in this neighborhood before. While some young people were spreading love through service projects, other young people spread love through invitations.

The Bright Spot that was created in the City by Breakout and LoveBuffalo needs to continue shining 365 days a year. The Churches and organizations involved need to find a way to continue spreading the love that has been planted. True empowerment is grounded in sustainability. Unity among churches will create Communion in the Body. Don't stop now Breakout and LoveBuffalo, you have helped to feed the embers of Revival smoldering under the City streets, now is the time to fan those embers into a bonfire of Revival that will burn in the hearts of the people who have been oppressed for too long.

Smiling and serving on a roof top.

Thanks for your time.

Go do something nice for somebody.
The YWAP Director was honored to work with a group of young people who grasped the vision and ran with it.

John Mika Sows a Seed of Servant-hood

Once upon a minute a man named John Mika had a dream or maybe it was a vision. However you refer to that special moment, it became a seed that is growing into reality. A Seed of Servanthood that is growing love through service in the City of Buffalo, New York. John Mika is creating Bright Spots of Hope.

No! John is not going to punch this young man! He is emphatically giving him a lesson on life because that's what John does best.

John envisioned a place where Teachers could go to get school supplies for under privileged and at risk children. John is the Executive Director at WNY Shares. They are sharing love through servant-hood all over Western New York. Many youth groups came to the warehouse on North Hampton Street to help paint and spruce up the building. This vacant warehouse space will become a haven for teachers seeking much needed school supplies for students. John's dream just doesn't help teachers and students in the future, he is helping young people now. His actions are helping young people right now. He asked for help and that gave young people the opportunity to engage in helping their neighbor.

John is planting seeds of servant-hood
and watching hope grow into a Bright Spot.

Youth With A Purpose members take a break with some of their favorite food from Blasdell Pizza.
